Founded in 1960 by Patricia Lennen, a Columbia University graduate and advocate for innovative pedagogies, the Lennen Bilingual School began as a humble classroom within the American Church of Paris, at 65 Quai d’Orsay.
As a teacher in Paris, Patricia had witnessed American expat families whose children came and went without learning much French. Restricted to French establishments where they would likely fall behind not understanding the language, or English schools which offered limited French (if any).
She then decided to take it upon herself to combine her American methodologies and passion for France and French, utilizing her specialized education and professional expertise, to provide young children the opportunity to learn the language and culture of the country they now called home.
The Lennen Bilingual School immediately began filling the growing need for bilingual education at the preschool level. Patricia’s ambition for English and French speaking children to share their early school experiences and collaborate in learning each other’s respective languages, was fulfilled.
But that was just the beginning…
