Music and singing are enjoyed by all children. At the Lennen Bilingual School we develop the child’s appreciation of all types of music. While listening to music, the child will travel through time and various cultures as well as develop his/her listening skills. Singing is usually the first attempt of a child to verbalize in a foreign language while also discovering rhythm and the many ways of using his/her voice.
Movement is another important part of discovering music. It simultaneously encourages the child to move freely, while teaching the child to control his/her gross-motor movements by following a beat or rhythm and respecting the confines of the given space.
The children also use instruments to develop rhythm and to create their own music. It also helps the child to develop concepts such as fast and slow, high and low, loud and soft, and long and short. Children can also experiment with their voices and create their own musical instruments.
